Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his first title for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid season, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

It is his initial trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.

Victory also means Medvedev has won 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

His defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to wonder if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an better service.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour victory, took control to create a final set.

Moutet rescued four early-game opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the champion secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
